  • Where are you located?
    Both the Kōwhai tent and the Pōhutukawa tent are located in Waitomo, which is in the centre of the North Island of New Zealand.
  • Can we drive all the way to the Glamping site?
    Kōwhai Tent: There is a 120 meter uphill walk from the carpark to the glampsite. We recommend you factor this in when packing your bags. The driving track requires a 4WD or All Wheel Drive vehicle. You are welcome to borrow our 4WD. Pōhutukawa Tent: Yes you can drive all the way to the glamping site.
  • How far apart are the two glampsites?
    The Kōwhai Tent and the Pōhutukawa Tent are about 1km apart. The sites are just visible to each other in the distance but far enough apart that you won't hear each other and will still have complete privacy at each site.
  • Where is the nearest medical centre?
    If you have a minor medical incident, there is a first aid kit located in the drawer of the sofa bed. For medical emergencies, please dial 111 and request an ambulance (there is cellphone reception and 4G at the glamp site). The nearest medical centre is Te Kuiti Hospital located in Te Kuiti township.
  • How do I know if the day I want to stay is available?
    Checking availability is easy! Just follow these steps: Go to our 'book now' page. Select which tent you would like to see availability for. Choose your preferred check-in date by clicking on the calendar. The available dates will be shown. Dates that are already booked will be crossed through.   • Can I join the weekend cancellation list?
    Absolutely! We understand that sometimes our weekend bookings can fill up quickly, but we do offer a cancellation list that you can join. To sign up, simply scroll to the bottom of this page and find the sign-up form for the tent you're interested in. We have two separate lists for each of our tents. By joining our cancellation list, you'll be the first to know if a weekend booking becomes available, giving you a chance to book your dream glamping experience.
  • How much does the glamp cost per night?
    Kowhai Tent: The cost is $490 NZD for a one night stay. This rate applies for any weekday, weekend day, or public holiday. There is no minimum night requirement for you to book. You can book as many or as few nights as you like! This price is for up to two adults. Pohutukawa Tent: The cost is $1320 NZD for a one night stay. This rate applies for any weekday, weekend day, or public holiday. There is no minimum night requirement for you to book. You can book as many or as few nights as you like! This price is for up to 8 guests.
  • When and how do I pay?
    In order to ensure your booking is secured, payment is required at the time the booking is placed. You will have a variety of credit and debit card payment options available to you at the online checkout.
  • How many people can stay?
    The Kōwhai tent has a maximum guest capacity of 2 adults. It has one bedroom with a queen sized bed in it. The Pōhutukawa tent has a maximum guest capacity of 8 adults. There are 4 bedrooms with queen beds in each.
  • Can I bring my dog?
    As Wild Canvas is located on a working farm, we unfortunately cannot have dogs or any other animals.
  • Are children allowed?
    Kōwhai Tent: Due to the glampsite being on top of a very steep hill, and numerous other hazards, we are unable to accommodate children. Pōhutukawa Tent: Yes we accomodate children.
  • What time is check in and check out?
    Kōwhai Tent: Check in is anytime after 2pm and check out is anytime before 11am. You can check in later than 2pm however we recommend coming as early as possible to make the most of your stay. Pōhutukawa Tent: Check in is anytime after 2pm and check out is anytime before 10am. You can check in later than 2pm however we recommend coming as early as possible to make the most of your stay.
  • Is food provided or do we bring our own?
    We do have some catering options, however these are additional. There is more information on these options here. Otherwise you will need to bring your own food. A few basics will be provided for you, however we strongly suggest you stop at one of the supermarkets you will pass on the way to the site and pick up some food. Kōwhai Tent: There is a Buschbeck wood fire BBQ and pizza oven, a Webber bbq, a gas hob, and a fire pit for you to cook over as you please. The kitchen is equipped with essential cookware and dinnerware. A chilly bin is situated in the kitchen and stocked with ice packs (not ice) to keep your meat, dairy products and fresh produce crisp, fresh and cold. For each night booked, you will receive the following farm fresh items: 4 organic eggs 750ml organic milk by Puhoi Valley Butter 1 loaf of fresh, homemade bread 1 s’mores kit (marshmallows and biscuits) Tea (English Breakfast), sugar, instant and plunger coffee. Condiments such as salt, pepper, oil and flour are in the kitchen. Pōhutukawa Tent: There is an indoor kitchen with a fridge freezer, oven, and stovetop. Outside there is a Morsø Forno pizza oven and a Weber BBQ to cook over. The kitchen is equipped with essential cookware and dinnerware. For each night booked, you will receive the following items: A bottle of New Zealand made wine Milk, butter, yoghurt, eggs and cereal A s’mores kit (marshmallows and biscuits) Tea (English Breakfast), sugar, instant and plunger coffee. Condiments such as salt, pepper, oil are in the kitchen.
  • Is there power?
    𝐊𝐨̄𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐢 𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐭: There is no power. There are battery powered lanterns and power packs to charge small devices. 𝐏𝐨̄𝐡𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐤𝐚𝐰𝐚 𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐭: Has full power. There are power sockets in each room, powered by an off grid from two main renewable sources.
  • Do you offer gift vouchers?
    Yes, we offer gift vouchers. Gift vouchers may be used for any available weekday, weekend day or public holiday. Gift vouchers are valid for 24 months from the date of purchase. Click the 'GIFT VOUCHER' tab in the header to order one online.
  • I have a gift voucher for Waitomo Hilltop Glamping, can I still use it?
    Yes you can! The voucher code will still work at the checkout. If you would like a new Wild Canvas gift voucher, let us know and we will and we will happily email you one. You are welcome to use your voucher towards either tent. If you would to use your voucher towards a different tent than the one on your voucher, let us know and we will transfer your voucher to the other tent.
  • How do I cancel my booking? Can I get a refund?
    We offer a full refund if your booking is cancelled two weeks or more prior to your booking. Cancellations with less than two weeks notice will be 50% refunded. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice will not be refunded. CANCELLATIONS DUE TO COVID-19 If your booking is cancelled within 14 days of your arrival date or during your stay due to an unexpected and sudden government-mandated lockdown or border closure that directly affects one or all of the dates you have booked, we will provide a credit equal to the full value of your booking (with no admin fee deducted) to a new booking within 36 months at either of our tents (Kōwhai Tent or Pōhutukawa Tent) subject to availability and our usual booking terms and conditions. Any non-arrival, unused services, cancelled guests or unused nights that result from any requirement to isolate or quarantine due to Covid-19 will be treated as a General Cancellation (see above).
  • How do I change my booking to another night?
